2月20日 Four Free Agents, For Crackdown, Downloadable on marketplace! So, Today hundreds and thousands of people rush to the store to get Crackdown, and start into the chaos. They get home, and are welcomed by 4 new agent skins to play as. And here's the kicker.... they are free! Goes to show, when a company puts their best into it, they can provide you with in-game content in a reasonable timeline, eh? Time to leave, it's my brothers birthday... going somewhere in a few minutes. Take care -Cypher (Posted at 10:55 a.m. in Fort Leavenworth, Mo.) 2月5日 Update For Monday, 2/5Guitar Hero 2, No Online Play You'd figure there would be an online, well... come to think of it, you'd think there would be a wireless Xbox 360 gutar too, but guess what... neither of these will be happening in the immediate future. Red Octane mentioned that Microsoft is very strict with allowing companies to make wireless product for their system, but eventually it sounds like Microsoft will ease up a bit. While we may not have online multiplayer, or a wireless guitar soon, the game ships with 10 extra songs that weren't available on the ps2 version, and Downloadable content will come into play eventually too. When asked, it also sounds like the guys are far more interested in making downloadable songs available, than making downloadable guitar skins and backdrops available. Well, at least one developer has their head in the right place.. Rootbeer Tapper sugars up Xbox Live Arcade! yep, for all of you old schoolers in the bunch.. Rootbeer tapper is on it's way to Live Arcade this wednesday. (2/7) Next-Gen Mortal Kombat aimed to look like Gears of War During an interview in Game Informer, Ed boon mentioned that when Gears of War came out, it nearly floored him. He was so impressed apparently, that he even made note of Mortal Kombat have more of a visual styling like Gears. Awesome. During the chat, he divulged very little about next-gen MK, but did say that we should see something about it fairly soon. As great as all of that is however, Boon had mentioned a couple years back that they were going to try for a Mortal Kombat every year... unfortunately, this one doesnt hit that goal. When in talks, Ed Boon mentioned it would be slated towards a Holiday 2008 release time. Bummer. Unreal Tournament 3 to play Crossplatform? During an interview with Jeff Morris, Lead Designer of UT3, The question was asked "Will Unreal Tournament 3 Play cross-platform with the PC?" Jeff stated that there isnt really anything standing in the way of this happening, but it is to be seen if cross-platforming will make the cut. Only time will tell it seems. I finally caved and got a laptop, so expect to see the updates a little more often. still contemplating my update schedule, but rest assured i'll keep you guys posted. 2月4日 Back On Track, Back With Vengeance!Ladies and gentlemen, let the fun begin... again!
Many months have passed since I have kept this blog up to date. Many things have changed in the last 3-4 months. It's been a while since the last time we chatted, so let me fill you in.
Over the holiday time, two next-gen console came out during this time, and one console corrected the errors it made in the past holiday season. The Wii and the Playstation 3 arrived on store shelves 1 week between each other, causing a hellacious amount of chaos at stores all around the U.S. Microsoft managed to solve problems of the past by making hardware and software ready for early next-gen adopters by bringing out hit titles like Gears of War, Rainbow Six Vegas, and FEAR just to name a few. Everything was looking very bright for the hardcore gamers, until the drought.
A rule of thumb to always remember about console launches is that there will usually be lack of top hit games within the launch window. Sony and Nintendo both suffered from this rule, leaving system adopters scratching their heads and wondering where the Mario's and Daxter's of the platforming world were hiding. As of now, both Nintendo and Sony have approximately 10-15 games out for their systems, which isnt a small number usually, except that a lot of the games were ports from other systems. The original IP's (Intellectual Properties) were few to find, leaving gamers with re-hashes of old games they've played time and time again in the past. Microsoft was not sitting in such a spot, having released the very popular Gears of War. Gears of War sold hardware over the holiday season. Granted this was their only original IP that came out during the season, but it proved it's weight in gold for Microsoft, as they cashed in big time.
Sony and Nintendo were suffering on the hardware side of life during this time also. As the months came and went, the Wii and PS3 were hard to locate, but towards mid January the Playstation 3 was sitting on shelves, and people were still craving the minigames of the Wii. It was very obvious that while the 360 had a year lead on the competition, Nintendo wasnt planning on messing around. They were out for blood this time, and due to the hype, fun factor, and quality of the Wii... It gave Xbox 360 a healthy competition over the season, and is still almost impossible to find just lying on a store shelf. PS3, not so much...
With the Holiday recap out of the way, other things have changed since the last post so many months back. I'm back to a slower schedule at work, and buisness has also died down a little too. This means that i'll be around more often, and be able to get back to the updates in gaming news. Now, while i'm not exactly sure as to how I will approach a schedule to when I will be posting the latest... I'm pretty sure i'll go for more of a 'Once Per Week' sort of situation as to keep this as more of an enjoyable thing for me, and for you, the viewer. This doesnt mean that I wont post stuff occasionally just during the week when I see something interesting.. but it'll help give you guys an idea of when to expect an update, and will allow me to rack up some tasty morsels of gaming heaven. Expect the regukar update to hit on Fridays, as it will give you something to to check out once the week is over and you're off of work, like myself. So thats the current plan. A little messy still, but things will become more organized as you and I ease back into this whole thing again.
Anyways, i've gone on far too long. Time to go play some games. I'll look for you on the battlefield, -Cypher 8月8日 Dead Rising Available 8/9So the game comes out tomorrow, a demo is currently available on live marketplace. If you havent tried out the demo yet, give it a shot. The game is pretty cool, and it's super violent. always a plus. The game will retail for 59.99, and is looking like a must buy hit for the summer.
I'm going to go play some more of the demo now, so give it a shot, and enjoy the game.
Cypher 6月29日 And the U.S. and Canada Get Teabagged (Chromehounds demo now available on marketplace, unless your canadian or american...)Yup, heard me right. we got kicked in the goods today, by the guys at Sega. Everywhere but the U.S. and Canada gets the demo of Chromehounds. What do I think about this rash move from Sega? Well, for a company that has been struggling for years, it's a disturbingly stupid decision for Sega to discourage us from their game by not giving us the demo too.
Right here is where Major Nelson (www.majornelson.com) would come in and say something to the extent of "some content cant be released in certain regions due to legal issues..." Well Major, Sega is not going to have problems releasing a demo in our regions. They're bringing the game out after all. I did not plan on getting this game in the first place, but now I definitely dont care about it. The only way I would have considered getting this game was if I had gotten a demo that I could try out, and base my purchase on the experience that the said demo would provide. However, no demo released? Ok Sega, no purchase for me. I'm not going to play this game with them. if they cant get me a demo, they sure as hell arent going to see my money.
Yes, friends. I know you can make an account for a region where it is available, so you can try it out. Well, I shouldnt have to.
-Cypher 6月23日 Update: The Criterion Collection Version Of Dazed And Confused Is Out. Is It Worth Getting? So, I wake up June 7th, and prepare to head over to BestBuy to pick up Dazed And Confused Criterion Edition. Before I leave the house, I decide that i'll just quickly call in to see if they had received their copies yet. So, I call in, and the idiot that I talk to on the phone... has no idea what i'm talking about. Now, usually i'd let this type of mistake slide, however I called and had myself specifically re-directed to Electronics so I wou;dnt run into someone who was clueless beyond Paris Hilton. Afraid that I still cant receive intelligent help over the phone. Anyways, continuing the story... So, I got off the phone with the mentioned pricktard, and I look on their website for preferred store availability, because I just assumed the shiftless layabout at BB was just trying to give me the run around. Well, sure enough. No Best Buy in the entire state had a copy of Dazed And Confused Criterion Edition. Next to every store listed in the state, sat a big ugly "Unavailable". So, at this point, I was kind of worried. If Best Buy isnt carrying something, thats usually a bad sign, because Best Buy usually carries everything!

Clerk: Thanks for calling Target, this is -------- How can I help you today?
Me: Yes, I was just calling to see if you carried Dazed and Confused Criterion Edition, it just came out today.
Clerk: Let me take a look on my computer....
*Eery silence for 45 seconds.
Clerk: Sir?
Me: Yes?
Clerk: We have it, but it came out last year or so..
Me: no no no, thats the Flashback Edition.
Clerk: There's a new one?
Me: no, it's the same movie, but it has a bunch more stuff with it.
Clerk: Oh!
*the Oh! made me think for a brief moment that he might know what I was talking about.
Me: You know what i'm talking about now?
Clerk: Nope.
Me:........
Me: ok, thanks. *CLICK*
Well, at this point, I was a little saddened. I tried circuit city, shopko, and a couple others after this, and they were all about the same response.
Eventually, I decided to go to Wal-Mart, grab some McDonald's from their food court thing, and check there. They didnt have it either. My dreams were dashed. On the way out of Wal-Mart, I noticed a couple stores down, was a Hastings. Well, I figured that no one actually was going to carry this thing, but decided I may as well just check and get the dissappointment over with. So I went in, and one of the first things that caught my eye, was a shelf of about 5 copies, and 10 dollars at least, lower than the price of all their competitors! Well, I grabbed it up A.S.A.P. and made a dash to the register. Paid. Got home. Opened it. Loved it. The special edition has sooooo much to it. may cool little things, including a cool neon green poster for the movie.
So, whats the conclusion of the story?
I paid 24.99 for the special edition, and just the sheer quality of this awesome collection was 100% worth it, and the movie is awesome too.
My Review? 9.7 out of 10.
It's a must buy for fans of comedy. Hell, a must buy for anyone really.
-Cypher A Day With Peter Molyneux!Ign, and a few other reporters were given a chance to see whats going on in the mystical world of Mr. Molyneux. What findings did they discover? read the ign article here !
n a group of about ten representatives from other publications, questions were tossed out regarding Fable's successor, working with Microsoft, and game design in general. To begin, we'll give you the introduction Molyneux gave us when we first sat down. "This is a very unique experience for me because I have never been to E3 before and not had some fantastic demo to show you all," he said. "So this is sort of a scary opportunity since I'm not just talking about a game on a screen. I can't really talk to you about features about Fable 2 but I can talk to you about some of the things that were influencing it, some of thoughts that are going on in Fable 2. I definitely can't show you anything, I can announce that we're working on another title at Lionhead but I can't tell you anything about it, other than it will be the greatest game of all time. [laughs] Audience: "Will it make our beds and tuck us in at night?" "It will not only make the bed," said Molyneux. "It'll make you not want to get out of bed. It will also make you breakfast." Obviously that's big news. We love breakfast. Even though we got absolutely no follow up information, it's a big deal for Lionhead to be working on a new project in addition to Fable 2. Could it be an entirely new intellectual property? Could it be a sequel? Could it simply be a PC version of Fable 2 set to release at the same time? Well, we don't know, but we'll certainly be there when it's announced. On the topic of Fable 2, Peter Molyneux stressed morality and emotion's role in shaping the Fable 2 experience. "I want you to care," he said, "and I can't tell you how we're going to do that." The latter part of this response was repeated countless times over the course of the interview. When asked about why he made the move to Microsoft, Molyneux was quick to answer. "It's a pretty easy one, actually," he said. "I think being an independent developer is a really trying thing to do." He went on to briefly describe how being independent was limiting the development time for some of his past games. "Today I've got more time to spend on the games that I love doing so much," he said. Molyneux continued on the topic of Fable 2's development progression. "We have been thinking about Fable 2 and actually been working on Fable 2 for almost a couple years now. I learned my lesson in terms of the press not to blow my mouth off every time I think of an idea." He went on to describe how a lot of the technology powering Fable 2 is original, but there's also some middleware in use. He did not make further specifications. "With the kind of stage we're at at the moment, without giving you any clues about how much more we've got to go, is that I can move around the world, I can interact, and I can do some unique control." Despite the fact characters can move around in Fable 2's world, "It's definitely not ready to demo yet," Molyneux said. Regarding possible PC versions, Molyneux said he'd rather focus on one version first, then think about other possibilities. "I'd rather get one single format absolutely nailed, and then think about other formats." What exactly he meant was unclear, but he did say the Xbox 360's Xbox Live feature is a, "super important step." He praised the ease of interaction between friends list contacts. "As a designer, I'm going to rely on that friends list," he said. "It's changed the way I think about games. I'm no longer just thinking about you, I'm thinking about you and your friends. That makes a big, big, big difference in the way I approach designing a game." He added that might not specifically apply to Fable. Peter Molyneux gave us an idea of where his focus was with game creation. "Making people feel like they are truly emotionally engaged. That is far, far more important than any feature I can suggest," he said. "Far more important than technology. Far more important than storyline...It's not just 'wow, my gun can fire 500 bullets rather than 400 bullets,'… it's 'wow, I've just shot someone, and that person relied on me or cared about me in this game,' and making you feel like you really have shot someone. That's what I think is more important. That's what I think as a designer I should be thinking about." When asked if Fable 2 would include any compatibility with the newly announced Live Anywhere technology that encompasses PCs, mobile phones, and the Xbox 360, Molyneux didn't deny anything. "It's a great idea. It's a really good idea." Unfortunately, like pretty much every other question asked, nothing was confirmed. Molneux himself acknowledged his dodgy answers. "I've been very clever. I haven't answered a single question really, I've just danced around the houses," he said.
